Everything has energy and so does our body. Chakras, also known as “wheels of life”, are the energy centers in our subtle body, they are the vital force of our well-being. When the energy passes through these centers freely we experience harmony within ourselves, everything seem to work out in our lives, we have good health emotionally and physically.

Daily life can bring to us stress, influence our thinking which might be not aligned with what we truly stand for, physical illness and many more things which are known as normal these days. All that can create imbalances in our energy flow. When some of the chakras are blocked or not working properly either have excessive energy flow or very weak, we may experience emotional imbalances, impulsiveness, health problems, obsessiveness.

It’s important to always maintain balance in our chakras. Luckily we can have control over it and keep the energy flow freely and harmonious by using different methods, like yoga, meditation, relaxation, aromatherapy.

Essential oils have been used from unknown times for spiritual purposes and they are still very relevant today. Essential oils are natural holistic tools which promote wellness on different levels in our body, emotional, physical and spiritual.

Our physical and emotional/mental wellness is inextricably linked together. Negative thoughts affecting our health in negative way and positive thoughts can even cure some of the physical illnesses. And vice versa.

To align our chakras we can use these natural tools, essential oils, to create a harmony in our energy flow. We can symbolically apply them on chakra levels, we can diffuse them in a room, we can use them in massage oils, take a bath, inhale directly or use specific oils for re-balancing specific chakras.

Muladhara or Base Chakra.

This is the first chakra in our energy system, located in the very base of our spine, associated with the basic needs, survival instincts like shelter, food, our belonging. It’s a foundation of our being. When this chakra is imbalanced we feel insecurity, fear, low self-esteem, we become needy and may have excessive negativity in our thoughts and behavior.

There is a number of essential oils which can help balancing the energy of this chakra. These are grounding, centering and strengthening essential oils, that helps you to connect with the earth. You can always choose the one your prefer by listening to your intuition. I always use different oils depending on the situation, availability and my inner guidance.

Vetiver is one of my favorite. It’s a very energy balancing oil and is very useful whenever you need to be brought into closer contact with the earth, to ground and center your energy.

Vetiver helps to bring all the chakras into harmony, balance and alignment with each other. It creates a strong foundation for the energy flow. It helps us to remain calm, stops the swirling on the mind, gently steadies and calms our inner disquiet. It encourages growth, integrity, inner wisdom, strength, feeling of protection, feeling of self-esteem and grounding.

Svadhistana or Sacral Chakra.

This is our second energy center which is located in about 6 fingers below the navel. Svadhistana chakra is associated with joy and pleasure in this life, sexual and reproductive energy, creative energy, emotional needs. When this chakra is imbalanced we may feel emotionally unstable, inner insecurity, feeling of guilt or shame, manipulative behavior, feeling of detachment, reproductive system imbalances.

Best essential oils to bring the harmony to this center are warming and deeply sensual, many of them are known to be aphrodisiacs.

Ylang Ylang is very sweet essential oil, it’s known as an aphrodisiac, it helps us to awaken the sensual part of our being and spirit that can embrace all things. It gently balances the sexual energy by bringing the spiritual understanding of love and procreation. Ylang Ylang can bring us the feeling of peace and dispel anger, which is core of any spiritual activity.

Manipura or Solar Plexus Chakra.

This is our third energy center, located at approximately waist area, between the navel and solar plexus area. This is a center of our will power, self-esteem, self-discipline and our personalities. It brings us sense of harmony and peace with surrounded world, courage, empowerment, confidence, our unique identity.

When the energy flow is out of balance we experience feeling of helplessness and irresponsibility, excessive feeling of control over everything and everyone, lack of courage, low self-esteem, jealousy, low vitality.

Essential oils associated with this chakra are these that help building the confidence and are protective from the negative influences and energies.

Juniper has been used in different rituals for thousands of year to purify our physical and subtle bodies. Juniper encourages humility. enlightenment, strengths, vitality, upliftment, confidence and courage.

Anahata or Heart Chakra.

This is the forth energy center, located at the heart area. It is the meeting point between our experiences of the physical world and divine, spiritual and mental experience. It’s associated with unconditional love and relationships, complex of different emotions like empathy, compassion, acceptance, forgiveness, generosity, kindness, respect.

When this chakra is out of balance we may feel possessiveness and co-dependence, broken or unhealthy relationships, lack of compassion or empathy, inability to forgive others or ourselves, feeling of separation.

Rose is an excellent example. It’s known as a scent of pure love, both human and Divine. It brings healing to the Heart Chakra, helps it to open up and awaken the unconditional love inside of ourselves. Rose encourages contentment, devotion, happiness, unconditional love, acceptance, forgiveness, empathy, completeness, purity, inner freedom and vision, harmony and peace.

Vishuddha or Throat Chakra.

It’s a fifth energy center in our subtle body which is located at the level of the throat level and primarily associated with communication, self expression and creativity through sound. A well-balanced Throat chakra enables us to express our truth, create and project our ideas into the world, be a good listener, give us a sense of timing, give us a strong intuition and inner charisma. When the energy flow is blocked or imbalanced we may experience difficulty in communication, speaking too much or not speaking truth, inability to listen, gossiping, judgment, arrogance or social anxiety.

Essential oils that promote sense of calm, strength and enable the truth to be spoken without anger and with integrity can significantly strengthen and balance our Throat Chakra.

Peppermint raises the spirit to fuller understanding and appreciation of the mysteries of this life. It stimulates and clears the energy, uplifts the mind, awakens and refreshes our senses, stimulates new ideas and creativity. It acts upon our ego, dispelling the pride and helps to overcome the feeling of inferiority. It’s an excellent tool for people who want to live an ethical life. Ajna or Third Eye Chakra.

It’s a sixth energy center in our subtle body which is located between the eyebrows, behind the forehead. Ajna represents the knowledge, which goes beyond the physical understanding into the realm of subtle energy. Third Eye chakra is associated with perception of subtle energies, intuition, vision, wisdom, ability to learn, emotional intelligence and awareness.

This chakra promotes the ability to think clear, being able to hear your own intuition or inner guidance. When the energy flow is imbalanced or blocked in this center you may be too logical, have lack of clarity, being either too attached to the physical world or live in illusion.

This chakra develops only during meditation, however essential oils that are helping us to connect with the higher levels of the mind and consciousness, that bring clarity to understanding the spiritual truth can be a great help for balancing the energy flow in Ajna Chakra

Rosemary is a psychic protector that helps us to keep away negative energy from external influences (good to start a day by diffusing rosemary or use it during the morning meditation). Rosemary is known to stimulate the brain and mental activities to improve concentration and focus. It’s associated with qualities of clear thought and clear-sightedness and can be helpful in bringing the clarity.

It’s the seventh and the highest major chakra in our subtle body and is located at the top of the head. It’s associated with spirituality, inner searching, higher consciousness, state of unity with the Divine, balance between mind, body and spirit, awareness. On a physical level Crown chakra is associated with with hypothalamus and pineal gland which are responsible for regulating endocrine system.

When there is imbalance present we might lack of empathy, spiritual disconnection and disbelief in spiritualism, inability to connect with others, sleep disorders, confusion and mental fogginess.

There is good number of essential oils that can strengthen and balance the energy flow in Sahasrara chara. These oils help us to connect with the Divine or higher consciousness and resonate with its energy.

Frankincense is associated with the highest spiritual aspirations and was used by nearly all religions. There of course many more beautiful essential oils that are very helpful for chakra balancing. To choose the correct oil you need to first of all listen to your intuition. It will always tell you or even point on the correct essential oil at that very moment.

Don’t forget to use high quality pure essential oils because the quality matters (check this post about why) if you want to receive the benefits from aromatherapy. Just scented oils won’t work as well as adulterated or synthetic aromatic substances.
