Aphrodisiac essential oils are basically the essential oils that promote the sense and feelings of romance. There are some essential oils that are known for centuries as an aphrodisiacs and that have proven its actions.

Rose essential oils is the first one that comes in mind whenever you think of romance. And there is no surprise in it. The aroma is very sensual and feminine. The scent of rose essential oil is very complex with a lot of aromatic layers in it, it’s like a perfume from the nature. You can smell first a very rosy floral scent, then it becomes deep and rich in its nature, sweet and warm, very inviting and sensual. Rose is one of the most colorful and beautiful middle notes. It blends literally with almost any other essential oil.

Jasmine essential oil has very intense floral scent, it is very rich and warm, heavy and fruity, absolutely very sensual and feminine, it is also narcotic. It is a middle note in perfumery. Jasmine is really great in awakening the senses and imagination. Can be used as a perfume on its own, same like Rose, and also it blends great with any other essential oil. It is a very strong aphrodisiac. What can be better than using Jasmine with its alluring seductive inviting and imaginative notes for the romantic evening?

Ylang Ylang essential oil has very exotic intense sweet floral aroma, very rich, deep and warm, strong and smooth, with some fruity and spicy notes in it, very persistent. It is extremely feminine and sensual, also inviting and seductive. It is a middle note. Ylang Ylang is also known as a “poor man’s Jasmine”, it blends beautifully with many oils, especially with other floral like Rose and Jasmine, spicy oils like Clove and Nutmeg, woody oils like Sandalwood or Cedarwood. It’s a very strong aphrodisiac which encourages self-confidence and promotes feelings of joy. Note: use it moderately as if used too much it can be overwhelming and give headaches.

Sandalwood essential oil has very soft sweet-woody warm aroma with balsamic musky notes present, it is persistent. It has very calming, meditative and quieting properties, and yet it is also a strong aphrodisiac. Sandalwood is encouraging sensitivity, serenity, harmony and peace. It is a thick essential oil and is better used in massage oil blends, body oils, or perfumes. It is wonderful base note that is a long lasting on its own and is also often used as a fixative for other oils in a blend. I love Sandalwood and if previously mentioned oils are feminine, this one is masculine.

Patchouli essential oil is very unique, it is rich, herbaceous and slightly sweet at the top turning into musty, earthy and then to dry powdery woody and slightly spicy base. It is very persistent and often used as a fixative base in perfumery. It is a base note. It blends well with Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Rose, Jasmine, spicy oils like Cinnamon, Black pepper, Clove, Coriander. Patchouli is alluring and sensual, it impacts strengths and gives a character. It is a strong aphrodisiac that is very grounding, balancing and relaxing.

Those are the the oils that have the strongest aphrodisiac properties. However, there are plenty of other essential oils that can share the same qualities, based on the individual feelings and preferences. Or they can be used in blends as a complimentary essences, to in a way accessories the scent, to add more story and depth, or to lighten it up.

As complimentary essential oils I really love using spicy oils like Black Papper, Coriander, Nutmeg, Clove, Cinnamon, Cardamom; floral oils like Neroli, Geranium; conifers like Spruces, Cypress, Cedarwoods; citruses like Bergamot, Oranges, Grapefruits. There are many essences to play with. I would say here: stay creative, listen to your intuition and feelings and use your imagination.
