Did you know that you can have allergy towards sun? Or to be more correct towards UV lights? The classical symptoms are skin rash with tiny reddish bumps on the skin often accompanied with itchiness.
I didn’t know that until 10 years ago my mom developed an allergy. In fact we didn’t even think of it, and the weird rash on all over the skin was dramatically progressing with lots of itchiness.
My mom went from one doctor to another, nobody could give an answer to what that is. She would have different pills prescribed, which didn’t give real results (wrong medication). I guess this type of allergy wasn’t very common.
Over some period of time we were observing the behavior (I like to observe everything) and we could see the pattern, whenever she’s exposed to sun she would get the rash and itchiness. Later doctors confirmed the same.
When I started using essential oils and studying it, I thought why not to try making some blends which may help and see if it really works. Honestly, I wouldn’t just write about it based on some theory, I like to see if it works first. It worked really well, over night the itchiness was gone, and in just about 2 days the rash was gone.
As a rule she’s trying to limit her sun exposure, but whenever she comes to visit me from the snowy winter directly into the “forever summer” place, she can’t help it but go to the pool or beach. This time we have natural remedies ready in a form of essential oils.
So that’s what we use to relieve sun allergy.
Chamomile German is know to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antihistaminic properties; it is cooling in its actions and is perfect for reducing itchiness alone with skin rash
Chamomile Roman similar to German Chamomile it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions, Roman Chamomile has excellent skin healing properties, and it is great addition to a blend that addresses any kind of skin problem.
Helichrysum also has very strong anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and skin healing properties. It is perfect to be used even on its own for reducing signs of allergy on the skin or any other skin issue. Gives really fantastic results in terms of reducing the signs of rash and reducing itchiness. This is a must-have essential oil for everyone in my opinion.
Lavender has great anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and skin healing properties, it is perfect for reducing signs of allergy, skin rashes, itchiness, dryness. It is very soothing for the skin in general. It’s an essential for any home.
Marjoram (sweet) this oil also has fantastic anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and is also ideal for reducing allergy signs like skin rashes and itchiness.
Peppermint is very cooling and has excellent analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, it is perfect for reducing itchiness and inflammation (in our case for reducing itchiness)
As a carrier oil the best option here is to use trauma oil (a blend of st. John’s wort and calendula oils), but if you don’t have it you can use any other carrier oil (I prefer jojoba, sweet almond, coconut or baobab).
Allergy relieving body oil blend recipe:
- 30 ml of trauma oil (alternative jojoba, sweet almond)
- German Chamomile – 5 drops
- Helichrysum – 6 drops
- Marjoram sweet – 5 drops
To reduce itchiness oil blend:
- 30 ml of coconut oil
- Peppermint – 5 drops
- Lavender – 8 drops
- Roman Chamomile – 5 drops
NB: skin rush can be an indicator to a more serious disease, if symptoms are not disappearing within 24-48 hours after using the remedy or any other treatment, or it is accompanied by other symptoms don’t hesitate to see a doctor.

Anna
